Use your Tesco Tokens to Support SEN Children at Newbridge School

I am sure the Tesco customers among our readers will have noticed that from time to time Tesco stores hand out tokens for you to cast your vote on a choice of three local projects to receive a grant from their Bags of Help community funding scheme. Next up in July and August you will have the opportunity to support Newbridge School’s bid to provide specialist play equipment for children with special educational needs.

Newbridge School (ex. Ethel Davis) has 2 campuses, both close to King George Hospital, and caters for ages 2-14 and 14-19. The school has approximately 140 pupils over the 2 sites, the children have profound disabilities including Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, Severe Sensory Disorders and many are in wheelchairs.

“They seem to enjoy life despite their problems” said Harvey Sharpe, who has served on the Parents and Friends Association (PFA) for over 30 years, and whose own daughter attended the school from 1979-1992. He went on: “I am still on the Committee trying to raise funds for the extra services and equipment that is needed”.

Here’s Harvey (centre) back in 2012 with the minibus that was funded by the then Redbridge Mayor’s charity fund for 2011/12, chosen by Cllr Chris Cummins (third from left).

Voting will take place from Sunday 1st July to Friday 31st August 2018 in Tesco at 8 local stores, see list below. Tokens are to be dropped in the boxes provided usually as you leave the premises.
The project with the highest number of votes will receive £4,000, the second placed project £2,000, and the third placed project £1,000.
