Oakfields to be Nominated as an Asset of Community Value

A new group is being formed – the Save Oakfield Society

The objective: to promote the protection, preservation and enhancement of Oakfield and its amenities so as to further the social wellbeing and social interests of the local community for the public good.

The Constitution has been prepared and it is expect it to be accepted by the Charities Commission as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). SOS will not need to register with Company’s House as a company but will nevertheless have all the advantages of incorporation.

This new body will be nominating Oakfields under the Localism Act and in line with related Regulations as an “Asset of Community Value” for the following reasons:

Oakfield is an intensely used and widely cherished place that furthers the wellbeing and social interests of the local community. It is a place where the occupying clubs openly welcome and bring together large numbers of people of all ages, diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds all year round for recreation, team sports and to socialise in the community facilities provided by the large, modern pavilions and arena complex. This contributes significantly to the community’s wellbeing, health, fitness, social cohesion and enjoyment.

The intention of the Act is to “encourage community-focussed, locally led action by providing an important tool to help communities looking to take over and run local assets.”

This will increase awareness of Oakfields and if any part of it is put up for sale, we would be able to delay the sale so as to give us time to raise finance and prepare a bid to buy.

If you wish to join the society for free then simply email here. If you wish to be actively involved please let SOS know.

Together we will Save Oakfield Site
