Richard Clare
I was born in Whipps Cross and lived in Wanstead with my family until I left to study in Sheffield in 2011. Now I'm back in my home patch and looking to make a difference for local people. I know that not everybody's happy with everything the coalition government's done over the last five years and I'd count myself among them, but if you look objectively, the Liberal Democrats have achieved a huge amount. Long term unemployment in Ilford North is down by over 40% this year and youth unemployment (18 - 24) down by over 30%. This is due to the hundred thousand jobs and two million apprenticeships we've created over the last five years. We've also managed to deliver our core manifesto ideas of cutting Income Tax for low and middle earners, which means £800 back in your pocket, while cutting the huge deficit we inherited in 2010 in half.

We've legalised same-sex marriage, made a huge investment into sustainable energy projects, overseen the largest state pensions increase in a generation and delivered a huge funding boost for local schools (see my website for how much each local school has recieved). The Conservatives want to keep going with the cuts and pay off the debt on the backs of the poor by bringing in permanent austerity. That's not good enough - the Liberal Democrat plan is to begin reversing the cuts in line with growth once the national debt is going down in real terms. That means the benefits of economic growth will be felt by everybody, rich and poor. If the Liberal Democrats form part of the next government, we'll write the pensions triple lock into law, guaranteeing an end to below-inflation increases under Labour and the Tories. We'll eradicate the budget deficit by 2018, cut your income taxes further and close tax avoidance loopholes.

If you want to see politicians in Westminster continuing to work together in the national interest, if you share our vision of a strong economy and a fair society where everybody has the opportunity to get on in life, consider voting Liberal Democrat this May.
