Community Chorus

Did you know that Barkingside has its very own Choir? I didn’t. But I do now.

Valentine Singers is a friendly group of some 70 singers, of mixed ages and backgrounds. The choir has gained a reputation, both locally (well it missed me and possibly you too) and further afield, for high quality performances with a friendly atmosphere. Based here in Barkingside, they rehearse each Friday evening at Gearies Junior School, Gants Hill Crescent. They do at least four main concerts a year as well as singing at various events, often by invitation, mainly in the local community. They have also toured in England and abroad,

Their repertoire embraces operatic and lighter stage music as well as traditional choral works. Recent concerts include Durufle Requiem, Mozart Vespers, Handel Judas Maccabaeus, Britten Rejoice in the Lamb and Coleridge-Taylor Hiawatha's Wedding Feast.

But here comes the invite. Do you sing in the shower but have been too shy to expose your talent to the wider world? Here’s your chance. Valentine Singers are getting together a new choir for a special event and they are looking for members. Anyone can join the COMMUNITY CHORUS.
It doesn't matter if you're a complete beginner or you already know your way around a song sheet, they'd be delighted to see you. The concert is planned for Saturday 12th July when Valentine Singers, the new COMMUNITY CHORUS and local schools will be performing Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose.

Here's a sample

  1. Singing in the choir and singing in the shower are not quite the same thing, B21. I don’t imagine the Valentine Singers would give a great welcome to potential members turning up soaking wet and stark naked. ‘Expose your talent to the wider world… ‘ did you say?
