Spearpoint surgery relocation
– damning report published

Healthwatch Redbridge reports local peoples’ views
regarding the decision to transfer the
Spearpoint Surgery to the King George Hospital site.

Today sees the publication of a report (PDF download here 924KB) critical of the outcomes of the relocation of the Spearpoint Surgery.

A survey, conducted by Healthwatch Redbridge about the move, concluded that there were detrimental impacts on the health services provided to patients – particularly those who are elderly, disabled and vulnerable.

Although the new premises on the King Georges Hospital site rated highly for cleanliness and access to services such as blood tests and X-rays; these were overshadowed by the increased costs, time and complexity of travel now being experienced by patients of the surgery.

Healthwatch Redbridge obtained the views of more than 10% of patients who use the practice. Volunteers spoke with local people at a series of public drop-in sessions and events that were held locally.

The results of the survey will be presented at the Redbridge Health Scrutiny Committee meeting on 27 January 2014.
