Signing On

This coming Wednesday there will be a Guinness World Record attempt here in good old UK. For the “most people simultaneously performing sign language to a song at different venues”. The existing world record is 4,800 held in China. My good friends at Afasic have organised some 184 schools up and down the country covering some 18,600 participants all scheduled for 9:30am on 22nd October 2008.

Pupils are being encouraged to join in with the attempt to help them better understand what life is like for those who have problems with communication and to help raise awareness of speech, language and communication impairments.

Afasic is pleased to be using a new song written by Alison Burns with signs provided by the Singalong Group.

Afasic is 40 years old this year and we are looking to raise awareness of these hidden disabilities. Yes, that’s we. I’ve been a volunteer since I retired in 1996. Usually I just do the IT stuff, but I picked up on this today, a bit late.

Unfortunately there are no Redbridge schools taking part, yet! Some of them read this blog.

Here are the children at Woodsetton School in Dudley performing the song. [10.3Mbts]

  1. Another Good cause that gets people to talk to each other - and "how" to talk to others.
