Barkingside goes Continental

a typical continental marketAs part of their plans for the Christmas Festivities in Barkingside High Street, the newly formed Traders group are arranging for a continental market on the Plaza between the Library and Swimming Baths - on the 14th, 15th and 16th of December.

A spokesman said “This market will give us a good opportunity to assess firstly, the site, and secondly, the public and business response and with this knowledge, we can plan for 2008. Similarly, we’ll have a look at how we can use the Craven Gardens Car Park for a family entertainment type event, which may or may not include a market, depending on how the site is used.”

The Regeneration of Barkingside High Street depends on how well it is used by shoppers and visitors. If you want to support the local economy, it’s up to you to make it a success.

  1. Really pleased that we are going to utilise the pool piazza for a market, even if we have to wait till December for it.

This should be an ideal spot, and will bring trade to other shops. Let's also hope it will smarten up the High St generally.

  2. May not be available too much longer if the proposals agreed by the Redbridge Cabinet on 4 September go ahead. Those will turn Barkingside into another slum like Ilford.
