Tul Bahadur Pun VCTul Bahadur Pun VC won the Victoria Cross fighting for Britain in the 3rd Battalion 6th Gurkha Rifles. He is 1 of only 12 living recipients of this country's highest award for valour. However, the British Government has refused 84 year-old Mr Pun VC's application to settle in the UK, to seek urgently needed medical treatment, on the grounds that Mr Pun VC "failed to demonstrate strong ties with the UK". See here.

Ronnie Biggs was allowed to come back for medical treatment.

UPDATE from dorothea: Joanna Lumley;

  1. Isn't it amazing - we keep known terrorists and inciters of racial hatred here, and fund their legal expenses, but we can't offer succour to our proven friends.

  2. Dorothea quotes the Guardian 1st June

    "The circumstances surrounding Tul Bahadur Pun's case are clearly exceptional and in light of this Home Secretary John Reid and I [Liam Byrne] have reviewed the case and made the decision to grant Mr Pun a settlement visa immediately,"
