The Garden Grab

a cement lorry While looking up Nick Hurd to find some background, I found his Campaign to 'Stop the Garden Grab'. While this web page says it is aimed at his home constituency of Ruislip-Northwood, it is in fact a national campaign and can also be found on the Conservative Party national website. Anyone can sign it, wherever you live, you don't have to be a Tory. Just click one of the links.
Under recently introduced planning rules gardens around homes are no longer classified as 'green space' and can be ripped up and replaced with blocks of flats. This coupled with 'permitted development' rules which allow 'bungalows' to be built at the bottom of a garden have effectively neutered local councillors from preventing over development with the increased strain on ameninities and infrastructure, and from protecting bio-diversity and the character of local communities.
