Our Redbridge Nature Conservation Rangers have been working in partnership with the City of London and the Wild Trout Trust to carry out habitat enhancements along the River Roding near Wanstead Park.
Here they are with volunteers posing at the scene:
Tree works have taken place alongside a stream that leads to the main river; the stream receives run off from surrounding busy roads and by removing the trees, they will be able to plant a reed bed that will filter out some of the pollutants.
The brash left over from the tree works was used to create a berm in the river, this helps to diversify the river bed habitat creating suitable space for invertebrates and small fish. The logs will be used later in the year to create an otter holt.
