In the Bleak Midwinter

The cold winter weather has really put in an appearance now and bringing with it all its associated problems. If you have lonely or elderly neighbours, they might be struggling to cope with extremes. It would be a good gesture to call on them and see if they are OK. Frozen pipes can cause water leaks, gas boilers struggle to come with the added pressure and break down causing central heating to fail.

All these can be a real problem to the able bodied and even more so to the elderly and infirm. So get into the Christmas spirit and get neighbourly over the winter season.

Don't forget to ensure that your house is locked securely if unattended. Store presents away from prying eyes and not under the Christmas Tree by the front window and again, do not be taken in by bogus utility persons calling at the door. Always ask for identity and if you suspect anything untoward dial 999. They are about. Don't let them spoil your festivities. I have noticed an increase of scam phone calls too. Do not give any details to callers who you are not expecting to contact you. I've included some contact details below if you require them.

From all your colleagues at Neighbourhood Watch, have an enjoyable and restful Christmas.

Kind regards
David Walker, Clayhall Ward coordinator.
