About 4-5 weeks ago a sinkhole appeared in the middle of Atherton Road, Clayhall, just by the junction with Marston Road. This is a junction that takes quite a lot of vehicular traffic in the two rush hours and particularly during the two parent runs (I’m being PC there), with The Glade School being just up the road.
It was caused by a fractured drain that washed away the soil and gravel underneath the road surface which eventually collapsed. Fortunately nobody was hurt or injured, as far as we know, and it occurred during the peak holiday season.
As of yesterday, it has now been repaired and tarmaced, pictured above, and we are awaiting removal of the equipment and the highway to be re-opened to traffic.
