The Bhamra Beat

Having just elected a new Mayor of London we now come to the new Mayor of Redbridge, elected at yesterday’s Full Council by fellow councillors.

This is not a political position. It is a civic position, the Mayor being our First Citizen representing us at functions etc and chairing Full Council meetings. The Mayor also gets to ride around in a chauffer driven car, wear a big necklace and a heavy red robe with furry trimmings.

So, as is customary we welcome Cllr Gurdial Bhamra, pictured left, into his new role. He is an ex-policeman and will be on the Redbridge Beat for the next twelve months. His aims are to work together with residents, to restore pride in the area and make the Borough greener & cleaner. And he wants to recognise the value of volunteers. He will also be expecting donuts at functions, so be warned.

The Bhamra’s Beat charities for the coming year are, the Healthy Living Project, Disabled Asian Women's Network, Vibrance & Redbridge Giving Tree. He will also be setting up a Mayor's Hardship Fund

The Deputy Mayor is Cllr Zulfiqar Hussain
