Trading Places – The Blind Spot

On Thursday 3rd December 2015 a McGee tipper lorry will be driven onto and positioned on the community pitch on the pedestrianised precinct in Ilford Town Centre.

This will be a Trading Places event arranged by Redbridge council’s environmental service department and will last from 2pm to 6pm. It is designed to raise awareness of blind spots on lorries with cyclists and pedestrians. See the video.

  1. Whilst I have every sympathy with people who are killed on the roads while going about their daily business, it is still true that we are ultimately responsible for our own safety. Motorists, including drivers of HGVs, are heavily regulated and have to pay for the privilege of driving on the country's roads. Cyclists contribute nothing to the upkeep of the roads on which they travel, tend on the whole to ignore the sanctions imposed on other road users such as stopping at red lights, and frequently endanger pedestrians by riding on the pavements.

Instead of spending huge sums of money creating cycle super highways, why do we not simply make it illegal for cyclists to go into the inside lane at red lights?
