LGBT History Month 2015 launch in Redbridge

LGBT History Month 2015
Yesterday evening was standing room only for the launch of Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender History Month - aka LGBT History Month - in Redbridge Town Hall.

I missed the rally on the steps but I hear it included an excellent speech from leader of Redbridge Council Jas Athwal. We heard next from Wes Streeting (Labour parliamentary candidate and deputy leader of the Council) spoke about the isolation experienced by LGBT people who lack support networks. We heard from Redbridge Rainbow Community about their work to provide these support networks. East Side Community Heritage introduced an oral history project, 'Being Civil in Redbridge', charting the path to equal rights for same sex couples in Redbridge. You can watch edited interviews from this project in this film:

There were posters summarising the decades since the 1970s when activists began to coordinate in earnest to campaign for equal rights.

But probably the star of the show was the magical comedian Victoria Elizabeth. Here she is tricking the leader of the council with cards.
