And the Winner is …

Stephie Butler with her award winning watercolour and prize

The Redbridge Art Association’s Summer Exhibition at the Dovecote in Valentines Park concluded at the end of August this year. It was a great success with almost two thousand visitors passing through over the duration of the show. Entries in the visitors’ book were overwhelmingly complimentary. Viewers were asked to vote for the three works they liked best and hundreds of votes were cast; so many in fact that it has taken Mrs. Norah Crombie, the organiser, weeks to sort out who earned the Best in Show award and the supplementary prizes.

Last week at a meeting of exhibitors at the Central Library, prizes were presented to the award winners.

The Best in Show award, a large cabinet of Derwent art pencils generously donated by the Cumberland Pencil Company, was won by Stephie Butler of The Ilford Art Society, for her magnificent watercolour called ‘Make a Wish’. Runners up were Stan Einhorn for ‘The Brady Boys’ and Fred Praver for ‘Lady’, both members of the U3A Monday Morning Art Group, Joy Regan from the Ilford Art Society for ‘Café in the Park’, Alan Mansefield from the Redbridge Marquetry Group with ‘East Cheam’s Finest Sons’ and Alan Scarff a member of Redbridge Art Group for ‘Kitchen Still Life’. All received cash prizes.

(Redbridge Art Association is a visual arts organization comprising six local member groups which was founded over two years ago as a result of the demise of Redbridge Arts Council.)

  1. Thank you so much for such a lovely write up, I feel truly honoured, and my thanks to all those who came along to see the exhibition over the 3 months and took the time to vote. Special thanks to Nora, without who's dedication and many hours given none of this would happen each year.
