Now what do you notice. Yes that’s right, there is a gap in the market – the Second Sunday of the Month. And there is no market in Barkingside or Hainault. But don’t hold your breath. The business partnerships in both locations have folded, there is no council support and the one officer who was dealing with “Regeneration” of Barkingside Town Centre has been moved to pastures new without a replacement. But there is this also from the Greening newsletter.

Organic delivered to your door

Second Nature, the independent organic store in Wood Street, Walthamstow operates a delivery service of fruit and vegetables, wholefood and cleaning products. They currently have an offer for anyone who recommends a friend, relative or neighbour to sign up for their weekly delivery service for a minimum of four weeks. The new customer will receive a bottle of organic wine; the person who introduces them will receive a £10 shopping voucher.

  1. One might judge from this - rightly or wrongly - the localities that the council favours on political grounds.

The Conservatives need to remember that prior to 2002 they had never won a seat in Hainault at an election. Not until 2010 did they take all three, having shared them in 2002 with Labour (1 seat) and 2006 with the British Nazi Party (1 seat). Unless they pay more attention to the area, then in 2014 they could lose some, or all, of what they now have.

They should equally not presume upon the apparent majorities in Fairlop and Fullwell wards.

  2. With the recent draconian increases in parking charges and timings in Barkingside coupled with the outrageous prices charged by the majority of the farmers’ market traders, why bother? They’ll be very few customers anyway.

(Incidentally, has anyone noticed the alarming cost of parking in the ‘two to four hours’ price band in the Exchange car park now? It’s a punitive £2.50 seven days a week! In Romford, parking in the market square is free on Sunday and a £1 all day in the multi-storey car parks. Where would you rather shop? Sooner or later our avaricious council’s parking and transport policies will destroy every trader in the area.)

  3. Parking may be cheaper in Romford but it'll cost you over £2 in petrol to get there and back!

  4. It depends where you start from! I'm only 1.5 miles from the Exchange car park and 5 miles from Romford Market Place.

My car travels, on average, 7.2 miles per litre, so that's a difference of only £1.30 (@ £1.349/litre).

Many Redbridge residents live closer to Romford and/or further away from Ilford, so their differential cost will be much smaller.

From Fullwell Cross, for example, to keep it in Barkingside, the difference is only £1.15 for the return journey.

I refuse to pay to park in Redbridge and Sunday is now like any other day of the week from a parking perspective so, if what I want is too big or cumbersome to carry on the bus, it comes from elsewhere.

  5. It's all part of Redbridge council's brilliant new policy - short-term gain before long-term pain. The council will rake in nothing when all the small shops go out of business.

  6. Does anyone know what the parking charges are, will be, for Westfield Stratford?
