State 51 Conspiracy?

The United States EmblemBack in July the UK Government announced that it had given permission for Menwith Hill, the largest electronic monitoring station in the world outside America, to be used in the American Missile Defence System.
Labour MPs were apparently furious. Jean Lambert, London’s Green MEP has said: "The Government approved the Menwith Hill site for missile defence without any parliamentary debate; undermining the democratic process in this country and revealing that they are not prepared to discuss the implications of this decision." Not even with their own MPs it seems. Meanwhile Ming Campbell ponders on why those who wish to maintain our sovereignty against the grabbing hand of the EU remain largely silent on this issue.

The Campaign for Accountability of American Bases (CAAB), have been demonstrating outside Menwith Hill and were joined last Saturday by Jean Lambert, pictured with Hilary Wainwright.

Their worry is that the UK would be more vulnerable to attack by any US adversary in order to destroy the effectiveness of the missile defence system. But what struck me was this:

“The site is run by the US National Security Agency (NSA), which monitors the world's communication for US intelligence, and employs around 1,800 US civilians and servicemen to analyse communications, mainly from Europe, Russia and the Middle East. All telecommunications traffic to and from Europe and passing through Britain is intercepted at the base: including private telephone calls, faxes, emails and other communications. Much of this information is collected from spy satellites, which is captured at the site by dishes contained in large white 'golf-balls' or radomes. The data is then processed and relayed back to the United States automatically.”

Irrespective of Star Wars the site was already there and that is what it does. Uncle Sam is eavesdropping on YOU. And it doesn’t end there.

As previously reported, one of the two companies in line to conduct the 2011 census is Lockhead Martin. This company claim “to deliver 'integrated threat information' to the US military by combining and analysing a wide range of intelligence information from around the world.” With even more personal and sensitive information being collected in 2011, some are worried that this could undermine public confidence in the census. A Petition on the PMs website here.

Simple answer - Transatlanticism - now that should be a dirty word, if any are.

Are you trying to get this site blocked again?

Well done on getting into the Top 20 Green blogs, BTW.

I see nothing wrong with telling the USA, the EU, and the whinging Jocks at Westminser to p*s* off back to their own countries and give us our independence. [By the way - p*s* is actually push, so there!].

But hasn't a UK law just been quietly passed, in the name of anti-terrorism that gives power to access records of private emails and mobile phone calls to all sorts of bureaucracy, including LOCAL COUNCILS!

And soon, the EU will have power to arrest UK citizens for things that are not a crime here, but may be elsewhere.

Frankly Judith, I have lost track of what is NOT a crime here.

Likewise, and thank-you. I blame that rabble-rouser Weggis.

It is clear that Redbridge Council should keep a very close eye on you lot. You can see why our mighty Government needs to hand out extra powers.

The EU is most certainly a far greater danger to both our freedom and our privacy that the USA will ever be. However, here's a question for you; If we are not to be protected from a newly nationalist and agrressive nuclear armed Russia not to mention the hightly dangerous, and also nuclear armed, Iranian regime, by the USA then how exactly do the Greens intend to protect us all?

There are many shades of green and there are many different types of “Greens”. If you mean the Green Party you can find their policy at:-

http://policy.greenparty.org.uk/mfss/Peace.html

It is a very complex subject and I have no answers but I am asking myself some questions like:

Why would Iran or Russia view the UK as a threat other than as the front line of US Imperialism?
Could the UK be the next Pearl Harbour, bearing in mind that at the time Hawaii was not yet the 50th State?
How can we complain about others having nuclear weapons when we have them ourselves and have decided to upgrade them?
Since we have our own Nuclear weapons why do we need the US to “protect” us?
