The EU at 50

The European Union FlagLast week was the European Union’s 50th birthday, apparently. Now, whatever you think of this Institution two things are clear. Firstly it was not a European Union when it was born, and secondly it was not a European Union when the British people voted to join. It has changed or evolved into what it is today. Nevertheless, the Independent celebrated by publishing 50 reasons to love the European Union. My two favourites are 14. Making the French eat British beef again and 50. Lists like this drive the Eurosceptics mad. And my favourite Euro quote. From Tom Wise [sic!], a UKIP MEP in a discussion during February on the proposed new laws on environmental protection – “We're moving towards a One World Government - where will it end?” Well, one thing is for sure Tom, the environment doesn't stop at Dover!
